Throughout the summer, DartmouthSports.com will be focusing on members of the Class of 2021 who are currently in their "Sophomore Summers" presented by Cape Air.
This installment focuses on midfielder and a 2019 All-Ivy League Second Team selection
Claire Marshall of the women's lacrosse team. Marshall led the team in ground balls and was second in draw controls and was instrumental in helping Dartmouth get back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in six years this spring.
Â
DartmouthSports.com: What have you been doing during your sophomore summer?
Claire Marshall: I have been at the Tuck School of Business Bridge Program since June 10. It has been a ton of hard work and some very long days, but it is an incredible program. I feel like I learned three years worth of valuable information in the first three weeks! After Bridge, I will be conducting research for a professor in the Sociology department.
Â
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
CM: One of my favorite places on campus is between Dartmouth Hall and the buildings on either side of it. I love that spot on a bluebird day right after it snows when you can look over the green.Â
Â
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
CM: Definitely
Katie Bourque, because she is invincible on the field. Katie can do anything and everything and no one can stop her. I would be grateful to feel what it is like to be in "Bourque mode."
Â
DS: If you could play another sport at Dartmouth, what would it be and why?
CM: I would play ice hockey. Starting at seven-years-old, I was an ice hockey goalie. I grew up playing the sport year-round, competed in two world tournaments in Italy and the Czech Republic, and in three national tournaments. Looking back on it, I was most committed to hockey and definitely thought I would pursue that sport. Despite my love for lacrosse, hockey is still my favorite sport to watch and I miss it dearly.
Â
DS: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
CM: I would hope Jennifer Aniston or Kristen Wiig.
Â
DS: What has been your best on-field memory thus far in your Dartmouth career?
CM: This past season, we beat Penn on their home turf. Heading into the game, they were ranked in the top-10 and we were right around the top-20. We were down by a few at the end of the first half, but there was an incredible contagious, swirling energy amongst the team. Everyone could feel something special that was about to transpire. Then, the second half began and everything clicked. The wheels were turning, and we couldn't be stopped. I have never felt so confident and excited with my teammates as I did during the last five minutes of that game.
Â
DS: What's the app you use most on your phone?
CM: Facetime! I keep in touch with my friends from home and my family members over facetime all the time.
Â
DS: What show do you binge watch?
CM: I can't say I'm much of a binge watcher of TV shows, but my away-game roommate Tin (
Kiera Vrindten) turned me on to
Grey's Anatomy during my freshman season, and I have been watching it ever since! We watch an episode together every night before an away game.
Â
DS: What is your useless/hidden talent?
CM: I know how to sew on a sewing machine and I can play the harmonica!
Â
DS: If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
CM: I think Japan would be a very interesting place to visit. Japanese culture is very different than American culture and I think it would be a very eye-opening experience.
