HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's rowing interim head coach
Kelly Harris has announced the hiring of Lauren Ayers and Anders Corbett as assistant coaches.
Â
Lauren Ayers
Ayers brings an elite level of coaching and rowing experience to the Upper Valley, having most recently spent the 2018-19 season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Harvard lightweight men's team and sculling coach at the Riverside Boat Club.Â
Â
From 2013-2016, Ayers served as the assistant/novice rowing coach at Brookline High School, singlehandedly directing the novice team and developing training plans to progress them to the varsity level. She was also the assistant program manager and rowing coach at Buckingham Browne & Nichols summer camps (2016) and the interim assistant lightweight women's coach at MIT (2015).
Â
Ayers graduated from MIT in 2012, having rowed on the lightweight team all four years and for one year of graduate school. She was voted Most Inspirational Teammate for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons as well as co-captain in 2012 and 2013. Ayers went on to train and compete internationally as a four-year member of the High-Performance group at Riverside Boat Club, representing the US Women's Lightweight National Team at the 2015 World Rowing Championships where she finished sixth in the LW4x.
Â
"I couldn't be more excited to welcome Lauren to the women's program," Harris said. "From the moment I met and talked with Lauren, it became clear that her strong work ethic and readiness to take on any role or task would add tremendously to our staff. Lauren's high level of training, racing and passion for the sport will definitely serve our young women well in their pursuit of excellence this coming season."
Â
Lauren will primarily coordinate and assist in all facets of recruiting alongside Harris, as well as coach the fours and/or 3V8 during the spring season.
Anders Corbett
Corbett has done it all. The founder and CEO of his own biotech company, Craft Microbiome, and a Forbes 30 Under 30 finalist in Science and Healthcare in 2017, Corbett has spent his most recent years working as a research fellow under a National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Trainingship at the University of Massachusetts Boston.Â
Â
A 2016 founding board member at the Manchester Rowing Alliance, a nonprofit after-school rowing program for high-risk, under-privileged teens on the Merrimack River in Manchester, Corbett coached all novice junior boys and girls during his three years with the program. Â
Â
As a walk-on to the University of Wisconsin men's rowing program, Corbett graduated in 2010 with a degree in history and was a four-year member of the team, earning his way to being part of the 2008 EARC and IRA championship squads. Â
Â
Corbett spent two years training with the Men's Lightweight Senior National team at the Olympic Training Center in OKC in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games and competed in the LM8+ at the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria. He is currently on leave from completing his PhD in Marine Science and Technology from the University of Massachusetts.
Â
"I was instantly drawn to Anders' out-of-the-box thinking, enthusiasm for the sport, and his desire to be at Dartmouth," Harris said. "Anders is a keen listener and learner, and he will undoubtedly add a positivity and sincerity to the boathouse each day as we look to redefine and elevate the standards of the program in all that we do both on and off the water."Â Â
Â
Corbett's responsibilities will include day-to-day team operations and travel logistics, as well as assisting with recruiting and coaching the 3V8 and/or fours in the spring season.
