PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Katie Bourque can score goals.
Â
The reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week put on a show Saturday at Brown, scoring a career-high six goals with the final marker coming on a free-position shot in overtime to give the No. 16 Dartmouth women's lacrosse team a 12-11 win in the conference opener for both teams.
Â
Bourque wasn't the only Big Green (3-0, 1-0 Ivy League) player to litter the scoresheet with tallies at the expense of the Bears (2-2, 0-1 Ivy League) as classmate
Ellie Carson scored five times in the game, including four in the second half.
Â
Those second-half scores were needed as the visitors trailed Brown, 6-5, at the break after starting the game with three straight of their own.
Â
A back-and-forth affair throughout the entire 61:24 of play, it always felt like the game would come down to who could score last and when it reached overtime, that sentiment was cemented.
Â
Junior
Claire Marshall actually scored the game's first goal to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead just over two minutes in. Every Big Green goal that followed came from Bourque or Carson as the senior duo proved to be too much for the Bears to slow down.
Â
Brown's offense was generated through four goals from Risa Mosenthal and a hat trick from Sophia DeRosa, while four players also added one goal each.
Â
Tori Chanenchuk had a game-high three assists for the Big Green all going to Carson on slashing plays through the arc.
Â
The Bears led the way with a 17-8 in draw controls in the game, but it was the 1-0 advantage in overtime for Dartmouth that was the deciding factor in possession and, ultimately, the winning score.
Â
Not only did Bourque net the winner, but also managed to reach 100 career draw controls with her first of two on the afternoon.
Â
In net,
Kiera Vrindten made six saves to earn the win, while her counterpart in Brown's Erin Tucker stopped nine, but allowed one more goal than Vrindten to take the loss.
Â
Brown allowed Dartmouth to remain in the game despite leading for large chunks of time due to 21 turnovers, of which the Big Green forced only eight.
Â
Dartmouth is home Tuesday against No. 8 Florida in a 3 p.m. start at Scully-Fahey Field.
