"We had a great first quarter energy and effort wise and stayed competitive," said Belle Koclanes, the Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach of Women's Basketball. "The second quarter hurt us, but we made adjustments at the half and played a close second half. We need to continue to grow to be able to play at a higher level for 40 minutes and win these games. Our focus moving forward is to become the team that sets the tone of physicality and pace."
Dartmouth maintained the energy early in the contest. Elle Louie scored the first points of the game with a hook shot at the 8:46 mark. It took Yale until 4:08Â in the first to take a 4-2 lead. McKenna then banked home a triple to make it 5-4 Dartmouth, but Yale finished the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 13-7 advantage.
Yale scored the first 11 points over the opening 7:53 of the second. Kealy Brown put an end to the Dartmouth scoring drought with a 3-pointer and Luce sunk a pair at the line as the Bulldogs led, 26-12, at halftime.
The Big Green kept up with the Bulldogs through the opening five minutes of the third, as each team had 11 points to bring the score to 37-23 with Yale on top. Abejon made a 3-pointer and McKenna sunk two from beyond the arc over that span. Yale outscored Dartmouth, 11-6, to end the third and extend its lead to 48-29.
The Bulldogs started the fourth with the first five points to push its lead to 52-29, but Mitchell and Douglas canned a pair of trifectas to force a Yale timeout with 4:53 to go. The Bulldogs had it all wrapped up in the final four minutes to secure the win.
Dartmouth closes its season on Saturday at Brown at 5:00 p.m.
