HANOVER, N.H. – The 15th-ranked Dartmouth women's lacrosse team raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 18-5 win against visiting New Hampshire Saturday at Scully-Fahey Field.
Â
The Big Green (5-0) remained unbeaten on the 2020 campaign with a dominating performance against the in-state rival Wildcats (1-4).
Â
In a day that saw nine different Dartmouth players score goals, it was the career-high six from
Katie Bourque that was the highlight as she pushed her career total to 98. Not to be overlooked was the four-goal, six-point (4-2-6) effort from fellow senior
Sophia Turchetta.
Â
The first of her goals in the game was the 50th of her career, the only milestone marker on the day as Bourque finished two shy of 100, while
Ellie Carson's only tally of the contest was the 99th of her career.
Â
Tori Chanenchuk had a pair of helpers in the game, giving her 51 in her now three-plus seasons in Hanover. Freshman
Mimi Lazore led the way with a trio of assists in the game for the team in green.
Â
"This was another great team win," head coach
Alex Frank said. "We had a lot of different contributors on both sides of the field. It was exciting to see them step up and make an impact on the field.
Â
"Going into finals week, we will be able to take time to focus on ourselves before heading into the highly competitive part of our schedule during spring break," Frank added.
Dartmouth raced out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening two minutes and 40 seconds, only to continue to build on it as the half wore on. It was a 10-goal lead with 8:08 left in the opening period to make it running clock for what proved to be the rest of the game. It was 12-0 at the half before UNH's Julia Neyland scored the Wildcats' first goal of the day 105 seconds into the second frame.
Â
For senior goalkeeper
Kiera Vrindten, he five saves moved her alone into fifth place all-time at Dartmouth with 406 for her career. The win was the 30th for Vrindten, just the fourth goalie in the history of the program to reach that number.
In addition to Bourque (6) and Turchetta (4),
Claire Marshall scored twice, now notching at least one goal in all five games this season and pushing her 2020 total to seven after coming into the year with just two. Carson,
Sarah Ross,
Veta Mayer and
Michelle Yu all scored once as did both
Nina Nesselbush and
Jazmyne Ward for their first career goals, respectively.
The Big Green head out on the road for a pair of games, starting at UAlbany Sunday Mar. 15 and Wednesday, Mar. 18 at Boston College.
