HANOVER, N.H. – Five members of the Dartmouth women's rugby team were named to the 2019 All-NIRA Tier I team, as announced by the organization on Friday.
This award was previously branded as NIRA All-America but was changed this year due to the addition of different divisions of teams.
Idia Ihensekhien and
Ariana Ramsey were tabbed to the All-NIRA Team, while
Kristin Bitter,
Sophia Haley and
Marin Pennell were named honorable mention.
Ihensekhien had her best season to date in 2019, ending her junior year third on the team in points (45) and second in tries (9). She scored a career-high three tries in the Ivy Rugby Championship win over Harvard and had two tries in three other games.
Ramsey was first in tries (10) and second in points (50) as a sophomore. She had three tries in the first two games of the season and scored the last two tries in the NIRA Semifinal game against Harvard. She was one of 12 players named to the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games Women's Sevens team.
Bitter concluded her first year in Hanover first on the team in conversions (19) and points (66), and third in tries (5). She had a season-high six conversions and one try for 17 points in the win over Quinnipiac. She was also selected for Winter Camp 2019.
As a sophomore, Haley had five points from a try scored in the win over Quinnipiac.
Serving as one of the team's captains, Pennell wrapped up her junior year with five points following a try scored against Quinnipiac.
