HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's rowing team announced its 2019-20 awards at the team's end-of-year Zoom banquet.
Â
The Season of 1979 Women's Cup for Service and Dedication, which has always been given to an individual, was given to the four members of the Class of 2020 (
Anne Blackburn,
Katie Erdos,
Lilienne Sexton and
Rebecca Thomson) for their contributions to the team both on and off the water.
Â
Erdos also received the Julia H. Geer Award, given to the woman who has made the most significant contribution to rowing at Dartmouth. The two-time co-captain coxed the Varsity 8 all four years, helping her boat win the Parents' Cup for three years in a row and finish sixth at Ivies for the past two years. During her shortened final season, her boat was 29th at the Head of the Charles and eighth at the Foot of the Charles.
Â
The Warren C. "Chuck" Nagle Jr. Award, which is given to the woman who perseveres toward the goal of giving her absolute best, was received by junior
Mikayla Hubner. As a freshman and sophomore, she coxed a boat at the Ivy League Championship. In 2019-20, she was coxswain of the B boat that placed 12th at the Foot of the Charles.
Â
The
Martha Beattie '76 Award is given to the most outstanding freshman oarswoman. Beattie retired as the vice president for Alumni Relations in 2017 and, before that, had completed a 30-year career as a rowing coach, math teacher and volunteer leader for a range of charities and schools. She was part of the first class of women admitted to Dartmouth and is now a volunteer assistant coach with the program. The award was given to
Allison Smith, who competed at both the Head and the Foot of the Charles in the top boat.
Â
Haley Leversedge received the Novice Award for spirit and ability given in the tradition of the 1978 Novice Crew. At the Foot of the Charles, she rowed in the C boat that was 16th and Novice B boat that placed fourth.
Â
In addition to those awards, there were two boathouse-wide awards. The Steward's Plate, which is given to the undergraduate who has done the most to promote the ideals of the Dartmouth rowing program, was given to Blackburn. Although the co-captain did not compete as a senior, she played an important part over the past four years. She helped her boats finish in fourth at Sprints as a freshman and second as a sophomore.
Â
Sophomore
Carter Nelson received the Class of 1990 Award, which is to be awarded to the underclassman who strives to excel on the water as an oarsman, as well as off the water as a teammate and a friend. This season, she stroked the Championship 8+ that placed 29th at the Head of the Charles.
