HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth men's basketball coach
David McLaughlin will have five student-athletes in the Class of 2025 as new members of the Big Green for the 2021-22 season —
Connor Christensen,
Ryan Cornish,
Nikola Dimitrijevic,
Cade Haskins and
Romeo Myrthil.
"We are very excited and have high hopes for our first-year members for the Big Green," McLaughlin said. "Collectively, they have the skill set, developmental mindset and love for the game that we look for in our recruiting process. They have all been very well coached during their respective high school careers and came with a foundation for transitioning to the college game. They all value relationships and are quickly understanding how to take ownership over their progress in all areas of the game."
Christensen, a 6-6, 195 forward from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was a two-time captain and three-time All-Lake Conference selection at Eden Prairie High. In his senior year of 2019-20, he led the Eagles to a perfect 28-0 record before the state tournament was canceled due to the pandemic. He also was named a Mr. Basketball semifinalist and earned all-academic honors that season. In the three years he earned a letter, Eden Prairie produced an overall record of 73-19.
"Connor is a competitor and winner that adds size and skill to our perimeter," McLaughlin noted. "He was very well coached under Coach David Flom at nationally ranked Eden Prairie. He has the foundational parts of being a contributing leader early in his career, and brings a constant energy to our program."
Hailing from Potomac, Maryland, is
Ryan Cornish, a 6-3, 170-pound guard who was a DC Gatorade Player of the Year Runner Up last year as a senior for Sidwell Friends School. He also was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team and all-state second team as a junior while at Sidwell, one year after earning first-team All-Mongtomery County status at Richard Montgomery High.
McLaughin said, "Ryan brings a scoring mentality combined with a sneaky athleticism to our backcourt. He has the ability to both stretch the defense and make a play off of the dribble. He has been prepared for the rigors of college basketball under Coach Eric Singletary at Sidwell. As Ryan gets more repetition and experience, his impact will be felt in our program."
One of two international students joining the team this year is 6-10, 225-pound forward
Nikola Dimitrijevic from Serbia. He played for one year at The Berkshire School in Massachusetts after attending Mathematical Grammar School back in Belgrade.
"Nikola brings some size and a high skill level to our front court," McLaughlin commented. "He has had some terrific experience with his playing internationally and had the opportunity to play for one of the top prep coaches in New England last year in Jeff Depelteau at Berkshire. As Niko continues to develop his body and get a feel for the pace of play at both ends, he will have a significant impact for the Big Green."
Another Minnesota native in the class is
Cade Haskins, a 6-6, 200-pound forward from Minneapolis. The three-year letter winner at DeLaSalle High helped his team to a 63-18 record over those three seasons, including a AAA state title and 29-4 record as a sophomore. In both his junior and senior campaigns, Haskins averaged over 16 points a game.
"Cade has an ability to stretch the floor, brings an excellent feel for pace of play and possesses a skill set that matches how we want to play," McLaughlin offered. "Coach Travis Bledsoe at DeLaSalle prepares his players well, and we have seen Cade benefitting from that at both ends of the court. It will be exciting to see his progress as he continues to transition into our program."
Romeo Myrthil, a 6-2, 185-pound guard from Solna, Sweden, rounds out the class. Last year, he played for the national team that won the Nordic Cup. In 2017-18, he was the point guard for the Swedish National Champions, earning the Final Four MVP and a spot on the Final Four All-Star Team.
"Romeo is an exciting athlete with a skill set to match" McLaughlin said. "His athleticism and overall feel for the game allows for him to have an impact at both ends of the floor. Romeo has some vast international experience and was prepared very well for the college game by Coach Michael Bree at Marks Gymnasieskola. We are excited to see Romeo's progression over the next few years."
The Big Green, which was 12-17 overall and 5-9 in Ivy League play, opens the campaign at Boston College on Tuesday, Nov. 9 with an 8 p.m. tipoff. All of the home games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Bob Lipman and former Big Green head coach Dave Faucher on the microphones, while Ivy and select non-conference road games will also be available on the platform. Big Green fans will also be able to listen to home games through the official website of Big Green athletics, DartmouthSports.com, featuring Brett Franklin and Bill Murphy on the call.
