PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Dartmouth women's rugby team traveled to Providence and defeated Brown, 47-5, on Saturday afternoon at Marvel Field.
Nicole Ihensekien,
Sophia Haley,
Emily Henrich,
Nyah Cordero,
Abbey Savin, Marguerite Genereux, and
Grace Player each scored a try for the Big Green, while Savin also hit six conversions.
The game was scoreless through the first 10 and a half minutes until Ihensekien had the try at the 10:24 mark followed by a successful conversion from Savin. Just a few minutes later, the Big Green extended their lead after a try from Haley and another successful conversion from Savin. Dartmouth had another two tries and conversions inside the first 40 minutes and had a 21-5 lead.
They piled it on in the next 40 minutes as they had another three tries with another two successful conversions.
"We were thrilled to clinch the Ivy title today, but today was about a lot more than the score line," Head Coach
Katie Dowty. "Having just lost their beloved head coach to cancer, the way Brown played today was inspirational. They were hugely physical, aggressive at the breakdown, challenged us in every aspect of play and honored her legacy in the best way possible with the way they played."
"For us, we were pleased to see the depth of our squad continue to shine," Dowty continued. "Three more players scored their first tries this season — a good sign we're playing smart, unselfish rugby. And our fullback,
Anjali Pant, put in an incredible defensive effort, making multiple try-saving tackles against some very powerful Brown ball carriers."
Dartmouth will be in action on Nov. 13 for the NIRA semifinal. The Big Green will play host to the #4 seed at 1:00 pm at Brophy Field.
