Dartmouthsports.com is recognizing senior student-athletes who had their winter seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior … Ben Swett, guard on the men's basketball team.
DartmouthSports.com: What have workouts been like so far?
Ben Swett: Workouts have been very good, considering the circumstances. Though we are unable to have full practices, our coaches have done an incredible job to put us in a position in which we are able to improve and become better basketball players. Of course, a normal season would be better, but it's been great being able to get on the court and in the weight room with the team. On the court, we've only been able to workout individually with coaches, while in the weight room, we are able to have team lifts with social distancing. Wearing a mask when working out has been interesting, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
DS.com: What is your most memorable on-court team moment?
BS: Aaryn Rai's game winner against Columbia last year.
DS.com: What is the best thing about practice?
BS: Bonding with your teammates when going through particularly hard, long practices.
DS.com: And the worst?
BS: Doing back-to-back 17s (conditioning drill where you have to touch the sideline 17 times in under a minute).
DS.com: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
BS: Aaryn Rai because I want to know what it's like to be undefeated in one-on-one.
DS.com: Any hidden talents you can share?
BS: I learned how to unicycle this past summer during quarantine.
DS.com: What are your plans after Dartmouth, as much as you can plan for anything during this pandemic?
BS: I'll be taking a gap year to do medical research before (hopefully) enrolling in medical school in the fall of 2022.
