HANOVER, N.H. – Junior
Emily Henrich and assistant coach
Stacey Bridges were among the 40 players who assembled for the USA Women's XVs National Team's spring Daily Training Environment over the weekend.
The camp will run until May 2 at the RugbyTown National Training Center in Glendale, Colorado.
While Rugby World Cup New Zealand was recently postponed until 2022, the Daily Training Environment still serves as an invaluable opportunity for ongoing preparation and time training in Glendale is just as important to ensure coaches and players are ready when competition does resume.
"It's great to see USA Rugby continuing to support its national team athletes and find safe ways for them to assemble and train despite the pandemic," head coach
Katie Dowty said. "Given that Emily is taking classes remotely this term, this is a particularly good opportunity for her to maximize her training while she is away from campus. And we always love to see Coach Bridges and Emily switch their player/coach dynamic to play side-by-side as USA teammates. Emily is working to make her first World Cup appearance next year, while Coach. Bridges is aiming for her third."
Henrich has been a force ever since her first season in 2018. That year, she was first in tries (11), second in points (73) and third in conversions (9), her best showing being a 27-point performance in the win over Brown. She was named NIRA All-Academic, NIRA All-American and was the MA Sorensen Award winner. She did not compete for the Big Green as a sophomore, as she spent the year training with the 7s program for Toyko at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.
"Despite the disappointment of the postponement, I'm thankful we have another year to grow as a team," Henrich said. "I know opportunities like the Daily Training Environment will put us in the best position to medal at the World Cup next year. I am also grateful to Dartmouth for the support and flexibility in chasing my athletic dreams."
Bridges joined the women's rugby coaching staff prior to the start of the 2016 season and was elevated to top assistant prior to the start of 2017. She has been a member of the USA Rugby Women's National Team since her time at Texas A&M and she played in both the 2010 and 2017 World Cup and was a reserve for the 2014 World Cup. She will be returning to Hanover in time for spring training with the Big Green.
