HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's rowing alum
Molly Reckford '15 will compete in the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials this week. The event will take place in West Windsor, New Jersey, from April 12-16.
This is one of the opportunities for U.S. rowers to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Olympic Games – rescheduled from last summer because of the pandemic – will kick off July 23, 2021 and will conclude August 8, 2021, with rowing being contested July 23-30.
Now, Reckford is already part of Team USA. At Trials I in Sarasota, Florida, in February, she and her partner earned the privilege of representing the United States in the lightweight women's double. Although they won, the pair still needed to be qualified in order to race in Tokyo, so they will be heading to the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, from May 15-17. If they qualify at Lucerne, the duo will be named to the U.S. Olympic Rowing Team. Lucerne is an important race and, because the pair couldn't attend the World Cups due to COVID-19, they are getting racing experience at Trials II in New Jersey.
In Reckford's senior season, she was two seat in the Varsity 4A that won the Petite Final at the Eastern Sprints Regatta. The CRCA Scholar-Athlete was in the Varsity 4B boat that placed second in the Petite Final at the Ivy League Championship.
Racing at Trials is scheduled to begin each day at 8 a.m. (EST). The schedule was moved around due to weather; the repechages were moved up a day to Tuesday, while the semifinals will now be on Wednesday. There will be no racing on Thursday, and the finals will still take place on Friday. Semifinals and finals will be streamed live on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.
