HANOVER, N.H. -Â The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team returned to competition for the first time in 414 days on Saturday, hosting Tufts at Scully-Fahey Field.
Â
The Jumbos (5-0) jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it, holding on for an 11-5 win.
Â
The Big Green (0-1) got goals from five different players, including seniors
Veta Mayer and
Michelle Yu. Sophomore Nina Nessebush, and freshmen
Victoria Norchi and
Jenna Donohue had the other three goals in Dartmouth's lone action of the season.
Â
For Tufts, the offense ran through Emily Games, who notched four goals in the contest. Catherine Lawliss scored three, while Anna Clark had a pair for the visitors.
Â
In in the cage for the Green, rookie
Tamer Luzi had moments of stellar saves, finishing the game with 13. At the other end of the field, Jumbos' keeper Molly Laliberty stopped 14 in the winning effort.
Â
"Tufts is a great team and we can see why they're ranked so high," head coach
Alex Frank said. "We wish them luck in their postseason.
Â
"I'm pleased that we were able to give our seniors one more chance to play at Scully-Fahey and give them the proper send off. We're also happy that our younger players had their first opportunities to get out on this field and see what makes it so special," Frank added."
Â
"Our program really wants to thank
Peter Roby and all the administrators who made this possible," Frank continued. "We are grateful for the chance to play under the circumstances, and we are looking forward to the future."
