HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's rugby team won the NIRA Championship in a true road match at Army West Point a season ago and should the Big Green make it back to the title game, they'll be able to defend the crown on their home pitch.
Hanover will be the site of the 2022 NIRA Championships for all three divisions on Saturday, Nov. 19, per the association's announcement on Monday.
"We are thrilled to be hosting this year's NIRA Championship for all three divisions of rugby," head coach
Katie Dowty said. "Our school and athletic department value the growth and progress of women's rugby as an emerging NCAA sport and see this as an excellent opportunity to showcase collegiate rugby to a wider audience. We will pull out all the stops to create the highest quality event, production and atmosphere that these amazing athletes deserve. We look forward to sharing our wonderful facilities with the league, players and fans, as well as broadcasting the events live on ESPN+."
Located less than a mile north of the Dartmouth College campus, picturesque Brophy Field, along with the Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse, are among the premier collegiate rugby facilities in the nation. Dartmouth is 30-3 at home over seven seasons of varsity action.
The Big Green have won a pair of championships (2018 and 2021) since the program was elevated to varsity status in 2015 and are currently undefeated heading into Saturday's clash with Harvard.
