33rd ANNUAL LEDYARD CLASSIC
The Dartmouth men's hockey team hosts the 33
rd annual Ledyard Classic this weekend at Thompson Arena. The Big Green play Merrimack on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will play either Providence or Yale the following night at 7:30 p.m. Providence takes on Yale on Friday afternoon in the first contest with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m. Merrimack will face the Friars or the Bulldogs in the early matchup on Saturday.
LOOKING BACK TO BEFORE THE BREAK
The Big Green returned to Thompson Arena for the first time in over a month when they hosted #14 UMass Lowell on December 9. The River Hawks grabbed a 3-2 victory while
John Fusco and
Luke Haymes scored for the Big Green. Dartmouth then hit the road two days later for a matchup with another Hockey East opponent, Vermont. The Catamounts picked up the win, 5-1.
Tyler Campbell scored his first goal of the season in the contest.
THE STATS
Haymes leads the Big Green in scoring with seven goals. Seven players are tied for second as
Braiden Dorfman,
Cooper Flinton,
Sean Chisholm,
Ian Pierce, Trym Løkkeberg,
Matt Hubbarde and Fusco each have two.
Tanner Palocsik has a team-high six assists while Hubbarde has five and
Cam MacDonald and Fusco both have four. Campbell, Chisholm, Dorfman, Flinton and
Joey Musa all have three apiece.
Defensively, Dartmouth has blocked 125 shots this season, led by Cameron, Musa and Fusco who each have 11. Pierce has nine while
Sean Keohan,
Tucker McRae and Dorfman all have eight.
Cooper Black has started all 12 games between the pipes and has made 312 saves while allowing 33 goals for a save percentage of .904.
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
Merrimack enters the weekend with a 13-4-0, 9-2-0 record. The Warriors are ranked sixth in the latest DCU/USCHO poll. They are currently on a three-game winning streak with wins over UConn (7-3), UMass (2-1) and Providence (3-2).
Matt Copponi leads the Warriors in goals with nine while Ben Brar has seven and Alex Jefferies has six. Jefferies also has a team-high 15 assists. Ottoville Leppanen is second with 12 and Will Calverley is third with eight.
Hugo Ollas has started 10 games in net for Merrimack while Zachary Borgiel has started the other seven. They have combined to make 404 saves and have allowed 30 goals for a save percentage of .931.
The Warriors are coached by Scott Borek, a Dartmouth graduate from the Class of 1985.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence enters the Ledyard Classic with a 9-4-5, 6-1-5 record. The Friars are ranked 12th in the latest DCU/USCHO poll. They fell to Merrimack, 3-2, in their last game.
Riley Duran leads Providence in goals with seven while Brett Berard, Jaroslav Chmelar and Nick Poisson are right behind with six apiece. Max Crozier has a team-high 12 assists. Berard sits in second with nine and Parker Ford has eight.
Philip Svedebäck has started 15 of 18 games in net for the Friars. He has made 333 saves while allowing 37 goals for a save percentage of .900.
SCOUTING YALE
Yale enters the weekend with a 1-8-1, 1-8-1 record. The Bulldogs played to a 1-1 tie with Clarkson in their previous outing. They won the shootout, 2-1.
David Chen leads the Bulldogs in scoring with three goals and Briggs Gammill is right behind with two. Cole Donhauser, Michael Young, Chen and Gammill all have two assists for Yale.
Nathan Reid has started seven of Yale's 10 games between the pipes. He has made 164 saves while allowing 20 goals for a save percentage of .891.
