CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 9 lightweight rowing won the Biglin Bowl on Saturday, ending No. 8 Harvard's 14-year run as victor.
This is just the fifth time in the 67-year history of the event that Dartmouth has been crowned the winner, the last being on April 19, 2008.
The Big Green's novice crew started the day off bright and early with a first-place finish (7:15.4), edging the Crimson by just over two seconds.
The 1V, coxed by
Peyton Gordon and stroked by
Ryan Tripp, won with a time of 6:30.7, leaving plenty of time between it and Harvard (6:36.4). Dartmouth pulled ahead early and, although the home team started to close the gap, the comeback fell short. MIT followed soon after with a 6:44.4.
The Big Green's 2V and 3V both came in third place. The 2V finished with a time of 7:00.9, while the 3V completed the course in 8:14.5.
Dartmouth will host Yale next Saturday, April 23, in the Durand Cup.
