PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Brown took the drama out of the first of three games this weekend against visiting Dartmouth, building up a 10-0 lead through five frames to cruise to an 11-3 victory at Murray Stadium.
Mika Peterson had four hits and four RBIs while Ryan Marra smacked a pair of home runs among his three safeties to lead the Bears (9-23, 6-10 Ivy) at the plate.
Elliot Krewson had two of the six knocks for the Big Green (1-33, 0-16 Ivy) including his first career round-tripper.
After going down in order in the first, Brown quickly jumped on southpaw
Trystan Sarcone in the second as Jacob Burley belted the second pitch of the stanza over the fence in left for his third home run of the season. But the Bears weren't done as they tallied four before the third out was recorded, capped by a Mika Peterson two-run single up the middle.
Ryan Marra extended the Brown lead to 6-0 in the third with his first long ball of the afternoon, and the Bears tacked on another run in the fourth and three more in the fifth on back-to-back triples by Peterson (two RBIs) and D.J. Dillehay to make it a 10-0 contest.
Dartmouth dented the scoreboard in the sixth as
Tyler Robinson found a hole for a leadoff single,
Kolton Freeman walked and
Elliot Krewson lined an RBI single to left-center. But Brown hurler Paxton Meyers kept the damage to just that solitary run by retiring the next three batters.
In the seventh, Freeman rapped a two-out, RBI single up the middle for the Big Green's second run, but Brown center fielder Derian Morphew gunned down a runner trying to go from first to third on the play to end the threat.
Elliot Krewson led off the eighth with a solo home run to left-center, closing the gap to seven. But Marra responded with his second four-bagger of the game and team-leading sixth of the season to get that run back in the bottom half.
Stiles Begnaud recorded the final three outs in the ninth to close out the first win of the year for Meyers (1-2), who allowed just one run on three hits and a pair of walks over six innings and 97 pitches while striking out eight.
Sarcone (0-6) suffered his first loss in four weeks, having left each of his previous three starts with a lead. The fifth-year senior surrendered six runs, five earned, on seven hits and a walk in three innings of work, striking out three along the way.
The two teams will attempt to finish the series tomorrow with a doubleheader that will begin at 11:30 a.m., though rain could wreak havoc with those plans. The games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available through DartmouthSports.com, the official website of Dartmouth Athletics.
Notes: Dartmouth's losing streak is now at 26 games … Krewson is batting .390 (23-for-59) over the last 14 games for the Big Green.
