DARTMOUTH CONTINUES STRETCH OF ROAD GAMES
The Big Green return to warmer weather this weekend when they travel to the Sunshine State to face the North Florida Ospreys. Dartmouth will look to secure its first victory of the season after dropping the opening weekend series with the Sam Houston Bearkats.
Â
HISTORY WITH NORTH FLORIDA
Dartmouth has only faced North Florida twice in program history, a two-game series in 2016. The Big Green were coming off a 2-1 win in ten innings prior to their first game with the Ospreys, but were not able to have the same success, falling 17-3 and 8-6.
Â
In addition to fighting for their first victory this year, the Big Green will also look to trend in a positive direction, not only in the all-time series with the Ospreys, but as they continue to play the beginning half of the season on the road and warm up for Ivy League play.
Â
SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA
The Ospreys will play one more game prior to their series with the Big Green, but currently sit at 4-3. Three of the Ospreys four wins came against fellow Ivy League member, Yale. The Ospreys combined for 22 runs over the three games while holding the Bulldogs to eight runs.
Â
The Ospreys have relied heavily on Cade Bush, Cherokee Nichols, and Drew Leinenbach for their offensive power early into the season. Bush leads the Ospreys with eight RBIs with Nichols and Leinenbach right behind with seven and six respectively. Nichols, who ranks second on the team in batting average (.320), has tallied eight hits this season, however more than half of them have been for extra bases as he leads the team with three doubles and two home runs.
Â
Peter Holden, Tony Roca, and Will Ross have each started two games on the mound for the Ospreys with Avery Love picking up a lone start along the way. Roca leads the four starting pitchers with a 1.42 ERA in 6.1 innings while Holden has pitched the most innings (8.1) and has struck out 13.
Â
ROBINSON AND CMEYLA START HOT
Tyler Robinson and
Nathan Cmeyla each played in all three games for the Big Green against Sam Houston. Robinson leads the team with six hits in ten plate appearances and has collected two doubles, a triple, and three RBIs.
Â
Cmeyla was only a home run shy of the cycle on Opening Day, but he was able to get one out of the park on Sunday, hitting the first home run of the season for the Big Green.
Â
IMPORTANCE OF BRINGING RUNNERS HOME
In the first game of the series with the Bearkats on Friday night, the Big Green scattered 12 hits, however stranded 13 runners. Across the three games, Dartmouth left 30 runners on base combining for only eight total runs. While the bats have appeared to start hot, bringing runners home will prove critical for the Big Green as they search for their first win of the year.
Â
A RECAP ON THE PITCHERS
Clark Gilmore,
Devin Milberg, and
Jack Metzger all started on the mound for the Big Green last weekend. The Big Green also used seven relief pitchers including
Eddie Albert who pitched 3.2 innings in one appearance, giving up one unearned run.
Danny Will,
Tyler Cortland and
Drew Koenen were the only three relief pitchers to pitch scoreless frames.
