JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Big Green travelled to Florida to face the North Florida Ospreys, looking for their first win of the season and their first win of the series against the Ospreys.
The Ospreys got out to a quick start and did not look back, defeating the Big Green 11-2.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 0-4 on the year while the Ospreys move to 6-3.
The Big Green had two runners on with two outs in the top of the first inning and when they thought they loaded the bases with an
Ethan Brown single,
Kolton Freeman was thrown out at third to end the inning.
The Ospreys also had two outs in their half of the first inning when they put two runners on base, thanks to a single and a walk. An error then scored two runs before another single scored the Ospreys third run of the inning. They then added to their three-run lead in the second inning when Cherokee Nichols hit a two-run home run to give the Ospreys a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Nathan Cmeyla continued his hot start for the Big Green, getting them on the board in the sixth inning. Cmeyla singled on the first pitch he saw before advancing on an
Ethan Brown single, and scoring on a
Max Zajec ground out to cut the Ospreys lead to four runs.
The Big Green would pressure again in the seventh inning, loading the bases with one out. Cmeyla knocked another single to drive home
Tyler Robinson, but an Ospreys pitching change stopped the Big Green's momentum, as they struck out the next two batters, maintaining a 5-2 lead.
In their half of the seventh, the Ospreys loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. The Big Green recorded two outs on sacrifices but allowed two runs to score. A two-out double then plated two more runs for the Ospreys, giving them a 9-2 lead headed into the eighth inning. The Ospreys added two more runs in the eighth inning on an RBI single and double, to win the game 11-2.
Clark Gilmore made his second start of the year on the mound for the Big Green, giving up five runs, two earned, in two innings. Gilmore also recorded two walks and one strikeout.

Marco Dumsky also pitched two innings of relief, followed by
Joseph Chambers and
Mac Burke who combined for the final two innings. The Big Green relief pitchers combined for six runs on six hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
The Big Green and Ospreys will be back in action tomorrow for the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+ or followed along via live stats.
