ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Big Green were down 11 runs in the ninth inning and despite threatening and pushing four runs across, the comeback fell short as Dartmouth fell in the series finale with Cornell, 11-4.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 6-11 overall and 2-4 against Ivy League opponents.
The Cornell Big Red wasted no time getting on the board, pushing five runs across in the first inning. The Big Green and their relief pitchers were then able to keep the Big Red off the board until the seventh inning, when they added four runs. The Big Red would add two more in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach for the Big Green.
Despite the 11-0 deficit, the Big Green battled in the top half of the ninth inning. With one out, the loaded the bases for Ethan Brown who doubled to send two runners home. A.J. DeMastrie singled only two pitches later to score the Big Green's third run of the inning. The Big Green loaded the bases with one out for the second time in the inning, but were caught at home trying to score on a wild pitch. With two outs, Dartmouth loaded the bases again for Camden Rush who drew a walk to score the Big Green's fourth and final run of the inning and game.
Eddie Albert started on the mound for the Big Green, pitching two innings and allowing five runs. Danny Will was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 2.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out three. Jack Metzger, Drew Koenen, and Aidan Plummer also pitched in relief for the Big Green
Dartmouth will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to UMass Lowell for its final road game before returning to Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park for the home opener against Columbia next weekend.
