BRIGHTON, Mass. – Six runs in the first four innings were too much for the Big Green to overcome, as they fell to the Boston College Eagles Wednesday, 7-1.
With the loss, the Big Green move to 7-16 on the season and will switch gears to welcome Ivy League foe Brown to Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park this weekend.
The Eagles opened a lead in the first inning, pushing two runs home to take a 2-0 lead. They then added two runs in the second and fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead into the back half of the game.
Dartmouth had chances, loading the bases in the second inning and scattering hits throughout the game, but were unable to get on the board until the eighth inning.
In the eighth,
Kolton Freeman led off the inning with a walk, coming home when
Nathan Cmeyla doubled to left center field. Cmeyla got to third, but the Big Green were unable to bring him home, ending the eighth inning down 6-1.
The Eagles responded in their half of the inning, adding one run of their own to retake a six run lead and defeat the Big Green, 7-1.
Dartmouth used seven pitchers in the loss.
Clark Gilmore got his second straight midweek start, pitching two innings and allowing four runs on four hits.
Eddie Albert pitched the next inning of relief, posting a scoreless frame while allowing one hit and dealing a walk.
Albert was followed by
Danny Will who allowed two runs on four hits in his one inning of relief.
Tyler Cortland,
Drew Koenen,
Joseph Chambers, and
Shane Bauer combined for the final four innings of relief, allowing only one run on three hits, and striking out six.
The Big Green will return to action this weekend, playing their second straight weekend home series. Dartmouth will welcome the Brown Bears for a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
Following Sunday's game, there will be a kids run the baes event as well as post-game autographs.
