LOOKING TO GET ON TRACK AT HOME
The baseball team returns home this weekend for their second straight weekend series at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park, welcoming Ivy League foe Brown to Hanover. The Big Green and Bears will play a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and a single game at noon on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green traveled to Boston College to face the Eagles on Wednesday, looking to bounce back from losses to Columbia last weekend.
The Eagles got on the board early, scoring runs in the first and second innings and opening a 6-0 lead before the Big Green were able to send someone home in the eighth inning.
Kolton Freeman led off the inning with a walk scoring when
Nathan Cmeyla doubled to left center field. Cmeyla advanced to third, but the Big Green were unable to score him, leaving the Big Green with only one run in a 7-1 loss to the Eagles.
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown, currently sitting at 8-18 overall and 3-6 in Ivy League play, is coming off a midweek loss to Rhode Island and a conference series loss to Princeton last weekend. The Bears won the middle game of the series against the Tigers to avoid a series sweep.
The Bears are led offensively by DJ Dillehay who has the most hits on the team with 31 and ranks third in batting average (.291). Dillehay has knocked in 20 runs this season and is part of a three-way tie for most home runs on the team, hitting three long balls this season. He is also tied for most triples in the Ivy League with three. Mika Peterson is the only Bear above Dillehay, leading the team with 21 RBI.
Jack Seppings has started the most games on the mound for the Big Green, posting a 2-4 record in nine starts. Meyers Paxton has pitched the same amount of innings as Seppings (40.1) in seven starts, posting a 3-1 record this season. Santhosh Gottam is the other go-to starter for the Bears, making seven starts and one relief appearance for 39.1 innings pitched. Seppings, Paxton and Gottam will each start for the Bears in that order, against the Big Green.
In relief efforts, Jacob Young has made 11 appearances out of the bullpen, posting a 2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched. Ryan Oshinskie is the next most used relief pitcher, having thrown 20 innings in nine relief appearances and once start.
HOWER, CMEYLA CONTINUE OFFENSIVE POWER
After leading the Big Green to victory just over a week ago with his go-ahead grand slam at UMass Lowell,
Jackson Hower keeps swinging, riding a five-game hit streak.
Despite Dartmouth's performance last week, Hower's contributions earned him Richards Group Athlete of the Week honors on DartmouthSports.com. He was also an honorable mention for Ivy League Player of the Week.
Hower's ability to get on base alongside
Nathan Cmeyla's recent success will prove instrumental to the Big Green getting back in the win column. Prior to the last game of the series with the Lions, Cmeyla was also riding a five-game hit streak, including a two homerun performance in game one of the series. He picked up right where he left off at Boston College, driving in the Big Green's sole run of the game.
FOLLOW ALONG
All three games against the Bears will be streamed on ESPN+ and be available to follow via live stats. The Big Green and Bears will play a doubleheader on Saturday with game one scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. First pitch of the series finale on Sunday will start at noon.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Following the weekend series with Brown, the Big Green will welcome Siena on Wednesday before travelling to Harvard for one of their remaining two Ivy League road trips.
