DARTMOUTH LOOKING TO BUILD POSITIVE MOMENTUM
The Big Green will play at home for the first time this season, welcoming Columbia to Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park for three Ivy League games. The Big Green will look to bounce back from their last Ivy League series with Cornell and continue momentum built in their midweek game against UMass Lowell.
Dartmouth and Columbia will play one game on Saturday at 2 p.m. and will play the doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth travelled to UMass Lowell Tuesday to play a non-conference game against the River Hawks. UMass Lowell got out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning, holding the lead until the fifth when the Big Green were able to tie the game.
Dartmouth then took the lead in the next inning thanks to a
Jackson Hower grand slam. They added a fifth run in the inning to take a 7-2 lead and secure the win.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
The Lions are coming off an Ivy League sweep of Penn at home last weekend, outscoring the Quakers 34-14 in the three games. Columbia is also riding a five-game winning streak.
Columbia is led offensively by Jack Cooper who has started all 22 games for the Lions. Cooper has a .333 batting average and leads the team with 27 RBI, scoring 22 runs of his own. Cooper is also tied for the most doubles on the team with eight and most home runs with seven.
Joe Sheets has started the most games on the mound for the Lions, making six starts and one relief appearance. He is tied for the most innings pitched on the team, throwing 23.1 innings and scattering 24 hits, 14 walks, and 19 strikeouts.
Brandon Madrigal has pitched 21.1 innings in one start and ten relief appearances, making him the most used relief hitters for the Lions. Madrigal has struck out 14 and dealt 12 walks this season.
OFFENSE AND PITCHING CONTINUE TO IMPROVE
At UMass Lowell on Tuesday, the pitching kept the Big Green in the game, allowing the offense to step up to secure a win. After allowing only two runs through the first third of the game, five relief pitchers combined for six innings of scoreless work, collecting 11 strikeouts and allowing eight hits.
The relief innings were highlighted by three straight strikeouts by
Nate Isler to get out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth and a fly out and double play ball by
Danny Will in the fifth to get out of another no out bases loaded scenario.
