A BOUNCE BACK MID-WEEK
Following a tough weekend series with Columbia, the Big Green will look to get back on track when they travel to Boston College Wednesday before returning home to host Brown for their fourth straight Ivy League weekend series.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green played their first series at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park last weekend, welcoming the Columbia Lions who sit atop the Ivy League.
Â
During the first game of the series, Columbia got out to a five-run lead before Dartmouth was able to get on the board.
Nathan Cmeyla started the offense for the Big Green, knocking a solo homerun to left field to it a 5-1 game. During his next plate appearance, Cmeyla repeated his first plate appearance, this time hitting a two-run home run. The Lions added ten more runs, while the Big Green were only able to double their runs, dropping game one, 19-6.
Â
The Big Green and Lions played a doubleheader on Sunday falling behind by eight runs in the first game before getting on the board in the sixth inning when
Kolton Freeman grounded out to score the lone Dartmouth run of the day.
Â
In the final game of the doubleheader, the Big Green offense came alive in the final five innings, scoring 13 runs. Dartmouth threatened a comeback in the ninth inning, scoring nine runs highlighted by a bases clearing double by
Zackarie Casebonne, but 19 runs was too much for the Big Green to overcome, as they fell 19-13.
Â
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
The Eagles, currently sitting at 17-13, will play one game against Northeastern on Tuesday before welcoming the Big Green on Wednesday.
Â
Boston College is led offensively by Kyle Wolff. In the Eagles' 30 games, Wolff leads the team with a .350 batting average and 34 RBI. Cameron Leary sits right behind Wolff, tied for second on the team with 33 RBI. Leary leads the team with 11 long balls, two ahead of Nick Wang, the second closest with nine.
Â
On the mound, John West and A.J. Colarusso have combined to start more than half of the Eagles games, each starting eight games on the mound. West has pitched 45.2 innings and has dealt 18 walks and fanned 39. Colarusso has allowed 27 runs in 40.2 innings pitched, walked 17 and struck out 36 batters.
Â
The Eagles have leaned heavily on Eric Schroeder, Evan Moore, and Jordan Fisse out of the bullpen. Schroeder has pitched 22.2 innings of relief in 12 appearances, Moore had pitched 15 innings in ten appearances, and Fisse has pitched 15.2 innings in 14 relief appearances. The three have combined for 42 strikeouts and have given out 28 free passes.
Â
HOMERUN POWER
In four games last week, the Big Green had two players combine for three homeruns,
Jackson Hower and
Nathan Cmeyla.
Â
In the Big Green's last midweek at UMass Lowell, Hower sealed the victory for the Big Green with a game winning, go-ahead grand slam in the sixth inning. In game one of the series with Columbia, Cmeyla hit back-to-back home runs, a solo shot and a two-run shot, both to left field.
Â
Offensive power will continue to prove important for the Big Green as they head into the second half of the season and their remaining Ivy League games.
