HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's lightweight rowing team put forth a strong effort against top-ranked and defending national champion Harvard, but the Crimson were victorious in all three races on a snowy Saturday morning in Hanover to capture the Biglin Bowl.
Â
"Really tough 'Welcome to the Woods' conditions for the Crimson up here," said Dartmouth head coach
Trevor Michelson. "We got snow, we got flow, we got debris in the river. We've got a lot of work to do, no question, but I really think a good performance at Eastern Sprints and the IRA (National Championships) is well within our grasps. We have to keep making progress, but really proud of our efforts today."

The third varsity eight began the day by posting a time of 6:04.6, which was less than 14 seconds behind the Crimson (5:50.7). Then, the varsity eight hung close against Harvard, ultimately posting a time of 5:32.1, which was just over four seconds behind the Crimson.
Â
"Hats off to Harvard… fantastic crew," said Michelson. "Great race, as expected from the number one crew in the country; they jumped us off the start. I thought we did a nice job hanging tough through the middle. When I look at where we were compared to Harvard at this point last year, I'm really happy with our progress."
Â
The second varsity eight had a similar result, an extremely encouraging effort which fell a little short. Dartmouth posted a time of 5:41.2, behind the Crimson's 5:34.6.
Â
"I honestly thought they raced fantastically hard throughout the entire piece," said Michelson. "Harvard jumped them, our guys hung really tough and opened up a little in the middle and started to close."
Â
The Big Green return to action next Saturday when they travel to Yale for the Durand Cup.
