HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth and Harvard wrapped up the regular season series Sunday, concluding the middle game of the series that was suspended Friday and playing the full series finale.
Â
The Big Green dropped the middle game of the series but earned their second comeback victory of the weekend, this time a walk off win to defeat Harvard, 7-6.
Â
Game 2: Harvard 4, Dartmouth 1
The second game of the series started Friday but was suspended in the eighth inning and resumed on Sunday.
Â
The first half of the game was quiet offensively for both teams, as the Crimson and Big Green had only a combined eight batters reach through four innings.
Â
Harvard broke the scoreless game in the fifth, taking a four-run lead on a bases loaded triple and a sacrifice fly.
Â
Dartmouth was able to get one back in their half of the sixth inning. Despite having the bases loaded with one out, the Big Green were only able to get one run when
Camden Rush drew a walk for his fourth RBI of the weekend.
Â
After the Harvard half of the eighth inning, the game was called due to darkness and resumed Sunday morning. Despite two more chances, the Big Green were unable to plate any more runs, falling to the Crimson, 4-1.
Â
Bryce Loeger got the start for the Big Green. He allowed four runs on five hits in five innings of work. He added two walks and fanned four.
Joseph Chambers pitched in relief of Loeger. He pitched three innings on Friday before collecting the final three outs when the game was resumed Sunday. Chambers did not allow a single hit in four innings with four strikeouts.
Â
Game 2: Dartmouth 7, Harvard 6
The Big Green were looking for the series win in the rubber match of the series, but the game looked to be all Harvard early.
Â
The Crimson opened a one run lead in the first inning, made it a three-run game in the second on two hits and an error, before taking a 4-0 lead over the Big Green in the fourth inning for the second straight game.
Â
The offense started to click for Dartmouth in the sixth inning when the Big Green pulled within one run. A single and two hit by pitches loaded the bases before another Harvard pitching mistake allowed one run to score on a wild pitch. A walk once again loaded the bases for
Chris Miller who hit a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing his team within two.
Â
The Big Green got one more run in the inning when
Camden Rush collected his another RBI on a single, making it a 4-3 game.
Â
Harvard responded in their half of the seventh, adding two runs on a single to re-extend its lead to three runs.
Â
Rush continued to swing the bat in the eighth inning, knocking his first career collegiate home run, a three-run shot, to score
A.J. DeMastrie and Miller, tying the game at six.
Â
The Crimson led off the ninth inning with a double, but
Kyle Klaric-Schell was able to get the next three outs to give Dartmouth a chance to walk it off.
Â
Ethan Brown led off the bottom of the ninth with a single before
Jackson Hower was hit by the pitch to put two runners on with no outs and force a Harvard pitching change.
Â
On only the third pitch he saw, DeMastrie ripped a single to deep right field, scoring Brown from second and securing the walk off victory and the series win for the Big Green.
Â
With the win, the Big Green move to 5-15 on the season and 4-5 in Ivy League play. Dartmouth is currently in sixth place in the Ivy League, holding an identical conference record with the Princeton Tigers.
Â
Nate Isler got the start on the mound for the Big Green. In six innings of work, Isler gave up four runs, two earned on seven hits. He dealt one walk and struck out six.
Â
Kyle Klaric-Schell continued to impress and earned the win. He allowed two runs on five hits in three innings of relief. He fanned five to tie his season high for single game strikeouts.
Â
The Big Green will wrap up an eight game homestand Wednesday when they welcome the Boston College Eagle to Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. Dartmouth is looking for its first win against the Eagles since 2017.
Â
Following a nonconference midweek game, Dartmouth will travel to Brown for another weekend of Ivy League play. All upcoming games can be streamed on ESPN+ or you can follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
