HANOVER, N.H. – Head coach of Dartmouth men's basketball
David McLaughlin has announced the team's captains for the 2025-26 season, which consists of rising seniors of
Brandon Mitchell-Day,
Jackson Munro and
Jayden Williams.
Mitchell-Day and Munro return as captains from the 2024-25 season, while Williams earns the distinction for the first time at Dartmouth.
"We are so very excited for the next chapter in the leadership for our program," said McLaughlin. "Through the peaks and valleys of a season, we strive to have a group that is player-led. This is more than just a phrase or term, but something we truly want to be part of our identity as a group: the ability to hold each other accountable, to have ownership over the process of working to achieve your goals, to be aligned with the coaches in the vision and direction of the program and to push each other to live up to the standards they have set.
"This is not just something we expect our leaders to do when they are comfortable, but more importantly when things are not easy, and it becomes even more of a challenge to meet our high standards each day." McLaughlin continued.
Last season, Mitchell-Day stood out as a consistent starter and vocal leader on the team for the Big Green. Playing in 27 games and starting 26 of them, Mitchell-Day averaged 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. In a comeback victory over Brown in Providence, the forward recorded 23 points and 20 rebounds, becoming the first Ivy League player to record a 20-20 double-double since January 2012 and the first to do it against a DI opponent since the turn of the century. After his tremendous efforts on the court, Mitchell-Day was named second team All-Ivy. He was also named a co-winner of the team's A.D. "Dolly" Stark Award, which is given to the most valuable player from the season.
Munro also saw consistent starts in the previous season, notching 21 in his total 26 games played, making him a heavy contributor to the Big Green roster. Last season, he led the team with 24 blocks and ranked third on the team in rebounding, averaging 5.5 a game. He ranked third on the team in field goal percentage (.531) and recorded a double-double against UAlbany. He is a leader on and off the court, and that showed in his recognition as the team's Academic All-Ivy honoree at the conclusion of the regular season.
Williams was a force off the bench for most of the season, also starting five games. The forward averaged 7.6 points per game and had two of his best games of the season against ACC
opponents. He recorded a season-high 32 minutes at Notre Dame and 13 points off the bench. In the team's victory at Boston College, Williams contributed 18 points, shooting .625 from beyond the arc. He had 10 games with double-figure points, including a stretch of six straight in nonleague action. Williams' 3-point percentage of .352 was good for fourth on the team.
"I am excited to share that
Brandon Mitchell-Day,
Jackson Munro and
Jayden Williams are ready for this challenge. I have full belief in their leadership potential and their collective dedication to have a player-led team," added McLaughlin.
The full 2025-26 schedule will be announced at a later date, but does include a trip to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the reigning national champions, the University of Florida Gators, as announced in July.
