Q & A with William Persampieri
How long have I been rowing and what sparked my interest?
I walked on in the fall of my freshman year at Dartmouth. I've always been a small guy, so the idea was to build up a little muscle and hopefully make some great friends along the way. Now that I'm a coxswain, my bodybuilder dreams have abated, but I still believe crew has been an amazing way to become friends with a wide array of people. Beyond that, of course, is the teamwork that's involved with making competitive, fast boat. Although the winters are long in Hanover, the intensity and excitement of race-days make it all worth it.
Have I won any awards?
Back in high school, I was a bit of a robotics gear-head, and our team won quite a few awards during my time with the team. My senior year, we even won the regional competition for the first time ever. Also, senior year I ran cross country for the first time, and won the championship meet while breaking the old course record.
Something interesting about yourself?
In high school, I played soccer until senior year, when I switched to cross country. Following the robotics theme, I'm an engineering major – either mechanical or electrical.
