Men's Lightweight Rowing
at Cornell
Q & A with Edward Berman
Why Dartmouth?
I looked at Dartmouth from 3 angles primarily: academically, athletically, and socially. I knew I really wanted to be an engineer, but I also truly love many other subjects. I had no desire to be a "hardcore" engineer and I knew that at a liberal arts school like Dartmouth, I could pursue a high level of engineering without having to worry about losing out on the history or english courses that I love. Athletically it was quite simple. When I showed up in the Fall for my official visit, all 3 rowing teams and freshmen were scrimmaging for the upcoming Gardner Cup. The conditions were idyllic and the water was glass and there was a very light fog. From that moment I knew I'd want to row at Dartmouth.
How long have you been rowing and what interested you about rowing?
I've been rowing for 6 years, although I've only been competing for 4. I initially started to row because when I was in 5th grade my older brother had actually started rowing and I wanted to be like him. I truly idolized him and still do to this day.
