Dartmouth Women's Lacrosse Dismantles Columbia, 19-3; Remains Undefeated

NEW YORK --- Katieann Christian, Jen Pittman and Sarah Szefi each tallied three times to lead the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team to a convincing 19-3 victory over Columbia (4-2, 0-2 Ivy) on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Big Green improves to 6-0 on the season, its best start in school history.

Christian (Agawam, Mass.) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally just 48 seconds into the game. Sophomore Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.), who led the team with five points (2G, 3A), and Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed with unassisted goals of their own and Casey Hazel's (Reisterstown, Md.) goal with just over six minutes elapsed provided the Big Green all the offense it would need on the day. Hazel finished with two goals and two assists.

Columbia's Kate Lombard got the Lions on the scoreboard at the 7:30 mark, but Szefi responded 35 seconds later with her second goal of the game. Another Columbia tally was followed by a succession of six Dartmouth goals, capped by Christian's goal at 20:18.

Liz Sanseau scored the Lions' final goal and Szefi answered a minute later to give the Big Green a 12-3 lead at the break. Dartmouth held a 22-6 advantage in shots and committed just four turnovers to Columbia's 13.

The second half was all Dartmouth as the Big Green exploded for seven more goals and the Lions were unable to muster any offense. Dartmouth's attack was firing on all cylinders as 10 different players scored in the game and the Big Green launched 36 shots while the Lions managed just 13.

Devon Wills (Denver, Colo.) and Kelly Roy (Sykesville, Md.) split time in goal for Dartmouth. Wills surrendered three goals and made six saves in 46:10 of action while Roy did not allow a goal and stopped one shot in her 13:50 minutes of playing time. The Lions' Marcela Calidonio played nearly the whole contest and made eight saves.

Dartmouth, now 2-0 in the Ivy League, will host Brown on Saturday, April 2 at 12:00 noon.
