Dartmouth's Christian Pots Four Goals to Pace 13-3 Win over UNH in Women's Lacrosse
March 5, 2005
HANOVER, N.H. - Senior
Katieanne Christian (Agawam, Mass.) scored four goals, leading the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team to a 13-3 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday.
No. 10 Dartmouth allowed the Wildcats (1-1) to hold a 2-1 lead with 10:30 gone in the opening half and then roared back with 11 straight goals to put the game on ice.
It was the season opener for the Big Green who has dominated the series in recent years, winning 11 consecutive games against the No. 14 Wildcats.
Dartmouth junior
Annie Leibovitz (Boulder, Colo.) netted three goals, including the first of the game for a 1-0 lead with 6:53 gone. The Wildcats answered two minutes later with a pair of goals by Laura Dosdall and Katie Leland about two minutes apart.
Dartmouth's offense and defense both took over after that. The Big Green went into halftime with a 7-2 lead after Christian scored two goals along with single markers by freshman
Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.), sophomore
Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.), senior
Sarah Sanborn (Owings Mills, Md.) and Leibovitz.
The Big Green had a flurry of five goals in the first 8:16 of the second half, including a pair by Christian less than two minutes apart. Douthett and Leibovitz pushed the lead to 11-2 before junior
Casey Hazel (Reisterstown, Md.) made it 12-2 with 21:44 on the clock.
UNH's Jill Albee scored with 13:18 to play before junior
Kristen Zimmer (Alexandria, Va.) had Dartmouth's final goal.
"Honestly, UNH is a strong team," said Dartmouth coach
Amy Patton, now in her 13th season. "We took them out of it early, though. I was impressed with our transition game. We controlled the temp and caused a lot of turnovers."
Patton also credited senior
Leah Skypeck (Longmeadow, Mass.) who was charged with defending Jess Burnap, the Wildcats' top offensive threat. "And
Devon Wills faced a lot of point blank shots," added Patton.
Wills (Denver, Colo.), the junior goalkeeper who has racked up first team All-Ivy honors as a freshman and sophomore, finished with 13 saves, including 10 in the second half.
For Dartmouth, Douthett had two assists to go along with two goals, and Leibovitz added an assist for a four-point afternoon.
The Big Green returns to action on Wednesday, March 9, hosting Albany at 3 p.m. on Scully-Fahey Field.
