PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) and sophomore Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) both scored in the first three-minute overtime, and the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team pushed past Brown, 11-9, in Ivy League action Sunday.
The Big Green (6-3 overall, 2-1 Ivy) had to score twice in the final two minutes of regulation to overcome a 9-7 Bear lead.
After Kate Staley scored Brown's ninth goal with four minutes left in regulation, the Big Green game back to tie the game with a pair of goals 11 seconds apart.
Juniors Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) and Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored at 2:04 and 1:53, respectively, to tie the game at nine apiece.
In the first overtime, Douthett made it 10-9 on a free position shot, and Barry followed up with insurance with 12 seconds left off a feed from senior Casey Hazel (Reisterstown, Md.).
The game was a must win for Dartmouth who stayed alive in the Ivy race with a 2-1 record. Brown (3-6 overall, 0-1 Ivy) was paced by Staley with three goals and netminder Melissa King with 16 saves, including 11 in the second period.
For Dartmouth, senior goalkeeper Devon Wills (Denver, Colo.) had four saves.
Pittman led the Big Green with three goals and one assist. Douthett, Szefi and Barry each scored twice and Douthett added an assist. Dartmouth's goal scoring was rounded out by Hazel and junior Margo Duke (Englewood, Colo.)
The victory over Brown started a string of five straight Ivy games for Dartmouth, with four of them on the road. The Big Green is at Cornell on Saturday, April 8 in a 1 o'clock contest.
