Hanover, N.H.- Dartmouth women's soccer sophomore Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) scored another early goal tonight but Columbia got the equalizer and the teams went on to a double-overtime tie, 1-1.
The Big Green moves to 3-8-2, 1-2-1 Ivy while the Lions are now 6-4-4, 1-2-1 Ivy.
"I thought we played well and started off strong scoring a good early goal," said Head Coach Angie Hind. "We lost a difficult goal but overall I am really pleased with how we played. The kids this week proved to themselves that they can bounce back and this was a difficult, competitive game and I'm proud of the way we played right through to the end."
Dartmouth came out of the gates strong and Hubbard got her team on the board in the 13th minute with a beautiful shot to the top left corner of the goal from inside the 18-yard box. Freshman Peyton Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) provided the assist with a nice header from the left side across the box to a waiting Hubbard.
The Big Green kept the pressure on but Columbia mounted a counter-attack as the half continued. Dartmouth senior goalkeeper Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass.) made a pair of saves late but could do little to stop a close-range header from Lindsey Cowles off a cross from Keri Nobil in the 39th minute to tie it for Columbia.
The teams took a 1-1 tie into the break with Columbia holding a slight 5-4 advantage in shots.
Columbia started the second half with three consecutive corner kicks and Dartmouth cleared each one, with solid play coming from Hubbard and senior back Annie Stanley (Winnetka, Ill.). The Lions flurry of offense culminated with Webb making a big save on a shot by Columbia's Sophie Reiser to clear the Lions out.
Each team had its chances in the period but solid defensive play kept the game tied. The last shot attempt by either team in regulation came in the 78th minute when Webb made a save on a Chrissy Butler shot.
The squads battled through two scoreless overtime periods in which the Big Green held a slight advantage in possession, especially in midfield play, but neither could find the back of the net and the contest ended in the 1-1 tie after 110 minutes.
Webb finished with eight saves in her third start of the season while Columbia's Rebecca Taylor made five stops. The Lions out-shot the Big Green 13-12.
Sophomore midfielder Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) had an outstanding game for Dartmouth, playing a full 110 minutes as the offense-defense link at midfield as usual. Also going the distance with 110 for the Big Green was the back line of Stanley, junior Emily Forline (Bethesda, Md.), sophomore Jenny Stone (Wilmette, Ill.) and freshman Melisa Krnjaic (Washington, D.C.) and Webb in goal.
Dartmouth is back in action next Saturday when it heads to Harvard for an Ivy League showdown at 11:00 a.m.
