HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth senior Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.) scored four goals, leading the Big Green women's lacrosse team to a 13-9 victory over Boston College on Wednesday evening.
The win broke a two-game losing streak for the Big Green, going into the season finale at Duke on Sunday. Dartmouth improved to 9-6 on the year. Meanwhile, the Eagles dropped their fourth in a row for a 5-10 mark.
Dartmouth started things off with a bang, ripping off a 7-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of the game. Senior Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) didn't waste any time extending her nation's third-longest point-scoring streak to 54 games, scoring the Big Green's first goal.
With the first goals of her collegiate career, freshman Colleen Olsen (Avon, Conn.) scored the sixth and seventh Big Green goals, and Dartmouth went on to an 8-1 lead at halftime.
After the break, Boston College tightened things, thanks mostly to a 9-5 edge in draw controls, but the Eagles couldn't get closer than four.
Also scoring two goals apiece for Dartmouth were sophomore Katherine Chiusano (Medford, N.J.) and senior Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Szefi also had three assists for a five-point game, and freshman Eliza Bennett (Darien, Conn.) contributed a goal. Freshman Kate Fauth (Alexandria, Va.) set up a pair of Big Green scores.
"We did some things in the game today that we worked on in practice, and I'm really excited about that," said Dartmouth coach Amy Patton. "It's probably the most progress we saw all year besides the Cornell game. We're trying to set ourselves up for next year right now."
She added, "Our defense had great doubles and slides today, I felt we were a step ahead of them defensively, I thought we connected in bringing the ball up the field and our attack was very patient. The seniors just played and had some fun. It's nice to get a win for them on Scully-Fahey Field for their last home game."
Freshman Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) earned the victory for Dartmouth, making eight saves.
