Hanover, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team held its end of season banquet on Tuesday night, highlighted by the announcement of the team's annual awards.
Six different members of the squad were honored with eight awards during the night that celebrated not only the on-field accomplishments of the Big Green but also the team spirit and camaraderie. Dartmouth's four graduating seniors were also honored and each took home an award.
The on-field awards included attack and defensive most valuable player, most improved player and unsung hero.
Attack MVP: Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.), Senior attack
Barry, a co-captain, was named the Attack MVP after a season in which she led the Big Green in scoring with 49 points on 37 goals and 12 assists and earned first team All-Ivy accolades. It marked the fourth All-Ivy recognition for Barry and she graduates as Dartmouth's fourth all-time leading point and goal scorer.
Defensive MVP: Liz Spence (Concord, Mass.), Senior defender
A co-captain, Spence was recognized for her efforts in guiding the Big Green's young defensive corps. Overcoming injury prior to the season, Spence was a force defensively for the Big Green and was called upon to run the defense in all 16 games started, coming up with 13 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls.
Most Improved Player: Kat Collins (Darien, Conn.), Freshman attack
An All-Ivy honorable mention selection. Collins ranked second on the team with 44 points on 34 goals and 10 assists. After scoring just four points in the first five contests of the season, Collins had a breakout game in the win over Columbia with four goals and two assists. She had eight points in the win over Vermont and seven in the upset of #2 Princeton.
Unsung Hero Award: Kate Labrum (Wallingford, Pa.), Senior midfielder
Presented for the first time, this award went to Labrum, who played through injury and contributed all over the field, starting all 16 games. She was versatile, adding six points, 18 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and 10 draw controls. During her four years, Labrum has played ever position on the field but goal. Labrum won the Most Improved Award as a sophomore.
Don and Margaret Radasch Award: Colleen Olsen (Avon, Conn.), Sophomore midfielder
Given to the player who has shown extraordinary dedication, true coachability and an unselfish attitude.Olsen started all 16 games running the midfield for the Big Green this year and was a source of consistency and a positive example for her teammates. Olsen came up big in the hustle categories with 32 ground balls, 29 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers.
Class of 1980 Award: Colleen Olsen (Avon, Conn.), Sophomore midfielder
For the woman that best represents herself, the team, the College and community through academics, athletics and community involvement.Olsen also brought home the Class of 1980 Award, in just its second year of existence. While being a critical contributor on the field, Olsen has one of the top grade point averages on the team and her community service efforts set a positive example for her teammates.
Josie Harper Award: Ashley Heist (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), Senior goalkeeper
Named after former lacrosse coach and current Dartmouth Director of Athletics Josie Harper, this award is given to the player who has shown love for the game, genuine respect and care for her teammates and pride in Dartmouth lacrosse and hard work.A two-sport athlete, Heist was recognized as one of the most positive contributors to the team's overall success. Heist has been Dartmouth's back-up goalkeeper for the past three years, appearing in eight contests during her career. She was recognized for her relentless hard work, team spirit and efforts in the classroom as well as on the field.
Patty Pierce Award: Liz Spence (Concord, Mass.), Senior defender
Selected by the juniors, seniors and coaches and presented to the graduating senior who has contributed to the team the most both on and off the field.Also the Defensive MVP, Spence brought a great effort to Dartmouth on the field throughout her career. She made a natural progression from her freshman year to her senior year, starting every game in the past two seasons and was a role model for her teammates. A former Class of 1980 Award winner, Spence has also been involved in many aspects of the Dartmouth community and the world. She has served in the Green Key Society, SAAC and traveled to Chile to work for the World Wildlife Fund as a sophomore.

Amy Patton announced the three women who have been elected captains for the 2008-09 year by a vote of their teammates. Current juniors
Katherine Chiusano (Medford, Mass.) and
Ashley Hines (Newburyport, Mass.) along with sophomore
Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) will lead the BIg Green next season.
