SYRACUSE, N.Y. ? The Dartmouth women's crew had several wins over Syracuse today but struggled against Ivy foe Radcliffe including a second-place finish in the Varsity Eight race.
Radcliffe took home the O'Leary Cup with its win in the Varsity Eight, finishing in 6:49.1 with Dartmouth behind in 6:55.4. Syracuse rounded out the field in 7:09.5.
The Big Green's Second Varsity Eight had a similar fate, taking second in 7:11.4 just behind Radcliffe in 7:07.1 while Syracuse again took third in 7:16.9.
“Overall I am pleased with our performances against Syracuse today but disappointed to fall short of Radcliffe,” said head coach Wendy Levash. “The varsity eight still has some work today and while there is room for improvement the second varsity had a much better race than last week.”
The Novice Eight had an exciting race and was the lone boat to defeat Radcliffe, taking second in 7:31.1 just 0.8 ahead of the Ivy opponent, though Syracuse won the race in 7:26.9.
The Big Green's only first place finish came in the Novice Four, a sound victory over Syracuse in 8:51.2 to the Orange's 9:07.2
The Varsity Four race belonged to Syracuse, however, which beat both opponents with a time of 7:55.2 Dartmouth took third in 8:13.9.
Radcliffe took the Second Varsity Four in 8:14.8, well ahead of the pack and Dartmouth finished third in 8:31.1.
Dartmouth is back in action next Saturday, April 25 when it heads south to face Penn and Princeton in Philadelphia.
