PRINCETON, N.J. — The #11 Dartmouth women's lacrosse saw the first rewards of its impressive season today when a league-best seven student-athletes were named All-Ivy, featuring a trio of first-team honorees. Ivy Champion Penn also had seven honorees; for a full list click here.
The selections are headlined by junior attack Greta Meyer's (Denver, Colo.) unanimous spot on the All-Ivy first team, her third straight All-Ivy nod. Senior goalie Julie Wadland (Andover, Mass.) is a repeat selection to the All-Ivy first team while junior defender Shannie MacKenzie (Greenwich, Conn.) makes an impressive All-Ivy debut as a member of the first team.
Do-everything sophomore middie Sarah Plumb (Wellesley, Mass.) was named to the All-Ivy second team as was senior defender Colleen Olsen (Avon, Conn.), earning her second straight selection despite missing three recent games.
Two sophomore scorers rounded out the All-Ivy group as attack Sarah Parks (Ellicott City, Md.) and midfielder Kirsten Goldberg (Cockeysville, Md.) earned honorable mention status.
A Tewaaraton Award nominee, Meyer is having her best season yet in a Dartmouth uniform, taking her game to the next level while moving to a new position as an attacker. Previously a second team and honorable mention choice, Meyer moved into her spot on the All-Ivy first team as a unanimous choice after leading Dartmouth in scoring with 52 points on 30 goals and 22 assists. She has the league's second-best average of 4.0 points per game. Shooting 58 percent, she scored at least one point in every game this season, and had three or more points on nine occasions.
Another Tewaaraton nominee, Wadland is on the All-Ivy first team for the second straight season. A co-captain, she is the absolute backbone of not only the defense, but the entire Dartmouth team. Throughout the season, Wadland has ranked in the top-five in the NCAA in goals against average, currently ranking fourth with a paltry 7.21 GAA. She also sports a .468 save percentage, ranking second in the league, and has made six or more saves on nine occasions. Wadland ranks third in the Ivy League with 2.54 ground balls per game, showing her ability to control the game outside the cage.
MacKenzie is Dartmouth's third first team All-Ivy honoree and is the first Big Green defender to earn the distinction since 2006. She has been a stalwart all season, playing nearly every minute while contributing 21 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers to help her team to a 7.10 goals against average, ranking fourth in the nation. Dartmouth's top mark-up defender, MacKenzie took the opposition's top player in nearly every game, and only gave up more than one goal to her mark on two occasions.
Plumb made her presence felt boldly to earn an All-Ivy second team nod as a true midfielder who does it all for the Big Green. She ranks in the top four in every statistical category this season including leading the team with 23 caused turnovers, ranking second with 23 draw controls and third with 31 points (19 goals, 12 assists). Plumb scored a point in every game this season, including five-pint efforts against Vermont, Columbia and #18 Boston University.
Olsen played herself onto the All-Ivy second team for the second consecutive season, impressing the Ivy coaches despite missing three of the last four games with an injury. For four years, Olsen has started every game she played including 10 this season, ranking second on the team with 23 draw controls and tallying 21 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. She organizes Dartmouth's entire defensive scheme and as a markup defender, her marked players have scored a total of just five goals all season.
An honorable mention choice, Parks has been a great spark on attack for Dartmouth, ranking second on the team in scoring with 38 points on 29 goals and nine assists. She sports a remarkable .763 shooting percentage and puts 89.5 percent of her shots on goal. Parks has scored a point in every single game this spring and had five hat tricks.
Goldberg also makes her All-Ivy debut with Parks as an honorable mention pick. The speedy sophomore seems to always come up when her team needs her most and currently ranks fourth in scoring with 26 points including 23 goals. She also grabbed 19 draw controls and 15 ground balls.
#11 Dartmouth (10-3, 5-2 Ivy) puts it on the line this weekend at the inaugural Ivy League Tournament, hosted by top-seeded Penn. The second-seed Big Green takes on Cornell on Friday, April 30 at 4 p.m. at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
