FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Kristin Verrette scored in the 95th minute to give Sacred Heart a 1-0 win over the Dartmouth women's soccer team in overtime on Tuesday evening at Campus Field.
The Big Green finished the contest outshooting the Pioneers, 22-11, and had many opportunities to score throughout the contest, which forced Sacred Heart keeper Talia Schwartz to make 13 saves.
“We worked hard today and adjusted as we went through the game to create some nice chances,” head coach Ron Rainey said. “We want to take our finishing to another level over the next few weeks to translate some of the pressure into goals.”
Junior Jackie Friedman led the Big Green with four shots on target. Five other Dartmouth strikers – seniors Kendall Kraus and Tasha Wilkins, junior Corey Delaney, sophomore Jessica Lukas and freshman Lindsay Knutson – each has three shots on goal as well.
In the second half, Dartmouth controlled play with a 13-7 edge in shots and took the only two corner kicks of the contest.
Late in the contest, Dartmouth had two late chances on blasts by Wilkins and Kraus, but Schwartz held court.
After an offsides call against the Dartmouth — in the 93rd minute — Sacred Heart countered and forced a set piece foul against the Big Green. The free kick by Jillian Picinich sailed into the box and Verrette scored the loose ball.
The defeat snaps Dartmouth's five-game unbeaten streak. Senior Tatiana Saunders made three saves.
Dartmouth travels to Princeton on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start.
