Women's Rowing Prepares for 2015 Ivy League Championship

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's rowing team is looking to improve on its fifth-place finish from last year as it prepares for the 2015 Ivy League Women's Rowing Championship on Sunday. The event, which begins at 8 a.m., will take place at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

The Ivy League champion is determined by the fastest boat in the first varsity eight grand final. The winning varsity eight boat earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, giving the team's varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four boats automatic entry as well. The NCAA provides for 11 automatic qualifiers and 11 at-large bids.

At the 2014 Ivy League Championship, Dartmouth placed fifth with 40 points. Princeton won the title by finishing in first place in the first varsity eight event with a time of 6:15.41, a race that saw the Big Green take fourth in 6:25.15.

Throughout the remainder of the day, Dartmouth was sixth in the second varsity eight (6:43.18), sixth in the varsity four (7:33.03) and seventh in the varsity four B (7:58.38).

12:45 p.m. – Third Varsity Eight – Grand Final
1:15/1:30 p.m. – Varsity Four B – Petite/Grand Final

2:30/2:45 p.m. – Second Varsity Eight – Petite/Grand Final
3:00/3:15 p.m. – First Varsity Eight – Petite/Grand Final

Point Breakdown
At the end of the day, two awards will be given out: one to the Ivy League champion for winning the varsity eight event and the other to the team with the most points. Last year, Brown was awarded the team points trophy after winning all but the varsity eight race. The league determines the winner of the trophy through a points system that weighs each of the day's races.
