Heavyweight Claims Packard Cup with Victory over Syracuse

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. – The No. 14 Dartmouth heavyweight rowing team completed its regular season on Saturday morning against No. 16 Syracuse on the Onondaga Lake Outlet. The Big Green swept the Orange in all four races, retaining the Packard Cup for the third consecutive season.

In the first Varsity 8 event, the Cup was on the line. Syracuse attempted a late surge at the end of the event, but it was Dartmouth who ultimately pulled out the victory, completing the course in 5:39.1 compared to the Orange's time of 5:44.0.

The Green left almost 13 seconds between them and the hosts in the second Varsity 8 race, ending up with times of 5:45.6 and 5:58.3, respectively. The third Varsity 8 event was the closest of all the races, with Dartmouth (5:55.5) finishing just a boat's length ahead Syracuse (5:59.1).

In the final event of the day, the Big Green's fourth Varsity 8 rowed to a 5:55.4 to take first, coming in less than six seconds ahead of Dartmouth's fifth Varsity 8 crew in 6:01.2. The Orange completed the 2,000m event in 6:10.0.

Dartmouth will compete in the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Men's Sprints on Sunday, May 17 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
