HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth heavyweight rowing head coach Wyatt Allen has been selected to coach the U.S. Under 23 men's team that will compete at the 2016 World Rowing Junior, Under 23 and Senior Championships.
The regatta is scheduled for Aug. 21-28, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and is a combination of junior, under 23 and senior world championship events. Allen will be assisted by Cornell's lightweight coach, Chris Kerber.
“It is always an honor to represent the U.S. on an international stage, so I am thankful to USRowing for the opportunity,” Allen said. “I've learned a great deal from both the U-23 athletes and coaches I've worked with over the past two summers, so I am happy to be involved again.
“Some of my best rowing memories were from the two summers I spent rowing with the U-23s,” Allen continued. “Getting to row with athletes from the best programs across the country, rowing out of different boathouses, and working with different coaches were great experiences. I developed friendships during those summers with guys I am still close with today.”
While serving as assistant coach, Allen led the men's four to a fourth-place finish at the 2015 World Rowing Under 23 Championship and to a sixth-place finish in 2014. Current assistant coach Stuart Maeder represented Team USA at the U-23 event last July in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
