HANOVER, N.H. – No. 8 Dartmouth lightweight rowing will host its final of five consecutive home races on Saturday, facing No. 4 Cornell in the 54th annual Baggaley Bowl.
The Big Red and the Big Green have competed against each other for the Baggaley Bowl since 1959. It was introduced in 1970 and made retroactive to 1964 and honors Bruce Baggaley '63, who coached the Dartmouth lightweights in 1964. The race was rowed at the Henley distance of 2,112-meters (with the exception of 1967 and 1969) until 1970, when it became a 2,000-meter race.
Cornell has won the cup 31 times and Dartmouth has claimed it 21 times. The Green had a two-year winning streak snapped in 2012 and the Big Red have now won seven of the last 11 races and three in a row. In last year's Baggaley Bowl, Cornell swept all four races.
The day's festivities will begin at 9:15 a.m. with the racing of the third varsity. The Green will also race the second varsity (9:45 a.m.) and first varsity (10:15 a.m.), during which time the Baggaley Bowl will be on the line. Dartmouth will be sharing water time with the women's rowing team, who will also be racing against Cornell. The cup will be presented to the winner at 11:15 a.m.
Fans are asked to park at the Dartmouth Day Care Center (1 Reservoir Road, Hanover, N.H.) and there will be a shuttle for all spectators to the race. No parking or drop-off is available at the finish line. For more information, click here.
On Sunday, May 15, the Big Green will head to Worcester, Massachusetts, for the EARC Sprints Regatta. Last season, Dartmouth advanced to the Petite Final in three boats and finished in ninth place overall, missing out on qualifying for the IRA Regatta by one spot.
