SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Dartmouth women's rugby picked up its first win of the season on Sunday by taking down Notre Dame College by a score of 76-5.
Captain Camille Johnson was on fire, scoring four tries and adding six conversions for a total of 32 points, which is more points than she scored last season.
The Big Green's rookies shined and scored a combined 30 points, with Emily Henrich leading the way with her three tries. Senior Kat Ramage followed soon after with nine points from a try and two conversions.
"We want to say a big thank you to all of our family, friends and fans who made the trip to fill the stands, and to Notre Dame College for being gracious hosts," head coach Katie Dowty said. "The team is happy to have our first win and to continue improving from here.
"We had quite a few players on debut today and we are thrilled with the impact they made straight out of the gate," Dowty continued, "which is a testament to both the hard work they have put in this preseason and the guidance of our senior players."
Dartmouth controlled the action from start to finish, getting on the board less than five minutes in. With tries by Sophie Ragg, Henrich (2), Sophia Haley and Ramage, and a pair of good conversions by Ramage, the Green had a 29-0 advantage before the first half was done.
A strong second half was highlighted by all four of Johnson's tries scored in a 28-minute span and, with the addition of tries by Henrich, Haley and senior Karina Martinez, and six successful conversions by Johnson, Dartmouth had a 76-0 advantage with time quickly winding down. With less than two minutes to go, the Falcons scored their only try of the match.
The Green will remain on the road when they take on defending national champion Quinnipiac on Saturday, Sept. 8.
