HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team raced out to an early lead Tuesday against Hofstra, but needed every second to hold off a valiant comeback effort to earn the 16-12 non-conference win.

Kierra Sweeney scored five times and had seven points for the Big Green (5-3), but it was a big save with 1:05 left in regulation from
Katie Forman that sealed the victory against the visiting Pride (6-4).

"I was really pleased with our hustle all over the field today," head coach
Danielle Spencer said. "Specifically, we had some pretty inspiring ground balls, draw controls and saves. I'm excited for another home contest on Saturday!"

Dartmouth jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fix six minutes and change before Hofstra finally found the back of the net. The Green pushed the advantage to 10-3 in the final minutes and looked like they would run away with the game.

However, two goals before halftime made it a 10-5 game at the break and two more to start the second cut the lead to just three at 10-7. Dartmouth would once again push the lead back to four at 13-9 before three straight tallies from the visitors made it a one-goal game for the first time since 65 seconds into the game.

Up 13-12 and staring at an opponent across the field with all the momentum, the Big Green turned it around and held the Pride off the scoreboard for the final 6:26 of regulation, while scoring three of their own to end the comeback bid and come away with the 16-12 victory.

In addition to Sweeney's five goals and two helpers,
Ellie Carson added three tallies with two assists for a five-point afternoon.
Elizabeth Mastrio once again had a two-goal, two-assist game, while
Katie Bourque and
Sophia Turchetta each scored twice.

The Pride were unquestionably led by Alyssa Parrella and her six goals and eight points.

Becca Wade started the game and made three saves before Forman came in for the second half to get the win with five saves to her credit. Jess Smith was credited with the loss for Hofstra, making five saves at the other end of the field from the Dartmouth keepers.

Kathryn Giroux was credited with 11 draw controls, giving her 327 for her career and moving her back into first place all-time in Ivy League history, passing Yale senior Izzy Nixon (318).

Dartmouth is back in action Saturday at home against Harvard. Game time from Scully-Fahey Field is set for 2 p.m. with the contest broadcast live on NESN in addition to ESPN+.
