NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Dartmouth heavyweight rowing team traveled to two-time defending national champion Yale on Saturday for the Olympic Axe. Despite some early showers, the rowing conditions were great with flat water and temperatures in the mid 60s. A light headwind was counteracted by strong flow which made for fast rowing conditions.
The First Varsity 8 for the Big Green put up a solid time of 5:43.3, but were beaten out by the boat from Yale which finished 11 seconds sooner at 5:32.1.
The Second Varsity 8 for the Big Green put up the best fight of the day, only conceding by 5.6 seconds. Yale finished with a time of 5:47.3, while the Big Green came in at 5:52.9.
It was another 11 second difference for the Third Varsity 8 which clocked in at 5:54.5, compared to 5:43.3 for the Bulldogs.
The Fourth Varsity 8 boat fell by 13 seconds with a time of 6:00.4, while the Fifth Varsity 8 came in third in the final race of the day, clocking in at 6:17.5.
The Big Green return to the water next Saturday when they travel to Boston University to take on the Terriers for the Bill Cup.
