Big Green Defeat Big Red to Retain Parents Cup

ITHACA, N.Y. – Dartmouth women's rowing retained the Parents Cup with a win over Cornell on Cayuga Lake on Saturday. No. 19 Syracuse also rowed as a guest.

The Parents Cup was created in 2000 in recognition of the parents' support and is presented each year to the winner of the Dartmouth/Cornell regatta. Though first presented in 2000, the cup was made retroactive to 1998. Dartmouth now leads in the series, 12-10.

"It was a solid weekend of progress for the team and it was exciting to retain the Parents Cup with a five-second margin over Cornell," said assistant coach Kelly Harris. "We still have much speed to gain as we head into Eastern Sprints next weekend, but we're keeping our eyes forward with a calm, confident, focused vision."

The Big Green won the cup by virtue of their V8 victory, rowing a 6:56.99 to the Big Red's 7:01.76. The Orange finished first in 6:40.45. In the 2V8, Syracuse led the way (6:55.64) and was followed by Cornell (7:09.60) and Dartmouth (7:23.72).

In the V4A, Dartmouth completed the 2,000-meter course ahead of both of its opponents with a time of 7:37.39. Syracuse was next (7:46.68), while Cornell came in almost 20 seconds later (8:04.95). The Green's V4B finished in 7:57.95, behind the Orange (7:49.46) and ahead of the Big Red (8:28.27). Just Syracuse and Dartmouth competed in the 3V8, a race the Orange won in 7:16.10, while the Big Green clocked a 7:51.79.

Next Sunday, May 5, Dartmouth will compete in the EAWRC Sprints in Worcester, Massachusetts.
