THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's rugby has an important game ahead of it, meeting Harvard for the first time since the NIRA Championship match, but this time on the Crimson's turf. The game, which will be played at 11 a.m. on Saturday, can be watched on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
After their first game of the season against Notre Dame College was canceled, the Big Green had to wait another two weeks before finally taking to the field. Facing Brown on the road, Dartmouth came away with a 52-17 victory.
Ariana Ramsey led the team with a trio of tries, while
Kristin Bitter added five conversions along with a try of her own.
Bitter provided the first score and conversion in the second minute before
Lauren Ferridge and Ramsey tacked on tries. Bitter finished off the latter with her second conversion of the day for a 19-0 lead in the 22nd minute.
After Brown pushed across the line for its first score, the Big Green pushed Brown back into its red zone off the restart. Ramsey fielded a clearing kick and brought it home for a try, with Bitter once again adding the conversion for a 26-5 lead, which is how it stood at the half.
Dartmouth did not let up after the intermission, with
Idia Ihensekhien and Ramsey providing tries, and Bitter the conversions for a commanding 40-5 advantage.
Brown added its second try on a run into the corner but failed on the conversion. Ferridge answered with her second try of the day with five minutes to play, and
Becca Jane Rosko capped the scoring on a 65-meter run with
Lillian Johnson adding the conversion, putting the Big Green up, 52-10. In the final minute, the Bears tacked on one last score and a conversion before the game ended.
PRESEASON POLL
In the NIRA pre-season rankings, Dartmouth was picked to repeat as NIRA National Champion with all four first-place votes. Runner-up Harvard was selected second and was followed by Army West Point, Quinnipiac and Notre Dame College.
SCOUTING HARVARD
The Crimson head into their first home match with a 1-1 mark after taking down Quinnipiac in dramatic fashion by a score of 57-10 and falling to Army, 34-10, the following weekend.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRIMSON
Dartmouth went 2-1 against Harvard in 2018. The first meeting at Brophy Field in September ended in a 55-13 win for the Big Green. A month later, the Crimson were victorious for the first time, winning the Ivy Rugby Championship by a score of 12-3 on a snowy October afternoon. Less than a month after that and playing on the lacrosse field, Dartmouth won its first-ever NIRA National Championship title with a 19-14 victory.
NEXT UP FOR DARTMOUTH
The Green will finally get to play their home opener in two weeks when they host Army on Saturday, Oct. 5.
