It was an eventful opening period, which saw a combined five goals between the Big Green and Gryphons. Guelph opened the scoring just three minutes into the game when Biondi pounced on a deflection off a skate and buried the ensuing shot.
The Big Green responded with two quick goals in the next 1:19 of gametime through Musa and Dorfman. Musa's initial shot out of the air was brought down but it fell perfectly for him to slot it in to tie the game. Dartmouth took the lead just 34 seconds later when Palocsik found Dorfman on the left side, who made no mistake and fired a shot past Guelph goaltender Tanner Wickware into the back of the net.
The Big Green scored another late in the period with under three minutes remaining. Fusco shot it towards and the redirect from Flinton made its way into the net. The Gryphons cut into the deficit a minute later. Allensen played the puck across to Penman near the blue line. Penman hit the first time shot through the Dartmouth defense into the net.
Dartmouth added three more in the second period, including two from MacDonald. MacDonald scored the first of the period at the 4:19 mark. Hubbarde scored with just under eight minutes remaining to extend the lead. MacDonald grabbed his second three minutes later.
MacDonald kept the momentum going as he scored just two minutes into the third period to complete the hat-trick. The Gryphons scored later in third period on the power play.
Dartmouth begins regular season on Friday, October 28, with an ECAC Hockey and Ivy League matchup at Harvard. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
