DURHAM, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team opened their season with an 11-3 win over in-state rival UNH on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
Dartmouth moves to 1-0 while UNH drops to 0-2.
Katie Elders scored her first career hat-trick while Maya Desmond,
Katina Christensen, and
Lucy Murray each scored two goals.
"We were very excited to be back on the field and competing again," said Josie Harper Head Coach
Alex Frank.
"UNH came out firing in that first quarter and we had to step up and match that energy," Frank continued. "We got better throughout the course of the game, and it was great to see several freshmen step up.
Gisele Todd came in at halftime and made three big saves and then having
Katina Christensen and
Maja Desmond get on the stat sheet."
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Junior
Katie Elders scored the first Big Green goal with five minutes remaining the opening quarter. Elders picked up the loose ball after it was stripped from
Maja Desmond. Elders ran up the middle through the defense and fired it into the back of the net.
The Big Green had a huge second quarter as they outscored the Wildcats, 4-1, to take command of the game. Elders added two more goals to complete the hat-trick.
Anna Griffith and
Lucy Murray scored the first goals of their careers.
Dartmouth scored another three goals during the third quarter, as
Jev Ward,
Katina Christensen, and Desmond all scored their first career goals. The Big Green added three more in the fourth quarter as Murray, Christensen, and Desmond each scored.
