STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season, falling to #4 Stony Brook, 20-3, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.
Dartmouth moves to 1-1 while Stony Brook improves to 1-1.
Jev Ward had two goals for the Big Green while
Lucy Murray had the other.
Jenna Donohue dished out one assist.
Tamer Luzi and
Gisele Todd combined for 10 saves. The Big Green had 18 ground balls, led by
Maja Desmond with four.
"We didn't play our best game today but there were some things that showed what we are capable of doing and we just need to do that for 60 minutes to be able to compete," said Josie Harper Head Coach
Alex Frank.
"We learned a lot about ourselves that we'll use going forward in the season and as we prepare for our first Ivy League game on Saturday against Yale," Frank continued.
The Seawolves jumped out to an early 2-0 lead inside the opening two minutes, scoring 20 seconds apart. Stony Brook got the lead up to 6-0 before the Big Green got on the board.
With 1:34 remaining in the first quarter, Dartmouth, on a man-up situation, had a free-position opportunity.
Jev Ward stepped up and fired it into the back of the net for her second of the season.
Stony Brook added five more until the Big Green added another.
Jenna Donohue made a great pass to
Lucy Murray inside in front of goal. Murray made a great move to get a better look at goal and calmly put it past the Seawolves goalkeeper for her third of the season.
On the cusp of halftime, Ward scored her second free-position goal of the game to cut into the deficit.
Stony Brook added eight more in the second half to seal the win.
Dartmouth opens their home and Ivy League schedule on Saturday when they host Yale at Scully-Fahey Field. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet.
